Responsible tourism in Peru
Inka Magik-Peru helps the traveller to explore the benefits of responsible tourism, by creating environmental awareness in schools we support, and we liaise with organisations and communities that have a proactive approach in protecting natural areas.
Peru has great potential for ecotourism because of diversity of cultural and natural resources: 17,000 of 25,000 species of plants can be found in Peru, the country is ranked first in the world in terms of the number of fish species (more than 2,000), third for amphibians (332), fifth in reptiles (365), second in birds (1780) and third in mammals (460). It has 3,532 species of butterflies (the greatest concentration in one country) and more than 3,000 species of orchids. The whole country offers a great diversity of flora and fauna, and there are 62 natural protected areas for ecotourism.
Machu Picchu, the main Peruvian tourist icon, is recognized worldwide, yet the country has 10 other cultural and natural sites registered on UNESCO's world heritage list. In Peru we find 84 life zones out of 104 in the world, 32 climates, 3 great river basins encompassing 12,201 lakes and lagoons, 1007 rivers and 3,044 glaciers.
According to international tourism trends, there is increasing interest in rural and community based tourism. Consequently, Peru can become a distinctive destination that can satisfy visitors with special interests, because of its untouched nature and landscapes, new experiences, sporting activities, Pre-Inca and Inca archaeological sites, colonial monuments, indigenous cultures, Amazonian rainforest, a rich gastronomy, handicrafts and folklore.
Inka Magik wants to encourage local communities to protect their natural environment and to increase environmental education in local schools through our community based projects .
Inka Magik welcome you to Peru, a legendary country.
